Services

Individual Therapy

Karyn Morton Psychotherapy & Counseling offers one on one  and couples online talk therapy, that focuses on mental and emotional wellness. I work as an independent contractor with Triton Behavioral Services, while I build my private practice. I take adult clients from all backgrounds, with a focus on Black women. I treat depression, anxiety, trauma (childhood, relationships, workplace, violence, racial, etc), sleep disorders, and stress disorders. I work with Black women to help them process through any mental and emotional distress, create healthy relationships and work/life balance, and reframe cognitions influenced most often by culture, to change behaviors to promote optimal overall health.

I provide a safe, supportive, judgement-free space for you to express yourself, work through stress, and heal using an integrative approach. Multiple insurance plans accepted.

Couples/Marriage Therapy

With a focus on communication, connection, commitment, and consistency (4 Cs), I want to help you find ways to build a happier and healthier connection with your spouse or partner that can lead to long-lasting companionship, intimacy, friendship, and partnership.  We will explore everything from childhood trauma, values, communication styles, love languages (see my Better Seven Love Languages), courtship, and the presence  of the Four Horsemen (criticism, contempt, defensiveness, and stonewalling), and the impact on your relationship.  From there, we will integrate the 4 Cs to improve how you partner, and show up in your marriage/relationship.  My speciality is working with Black couples to promote the exploration of how both culture and  socialization impacts our beliefs and behaviors about gender roles, power dynamics, and how we set relationship goals.  Whether you desire to remain together or uncouple, you will learn how to do so in a healthy way that minimizes relationship trauma.  Multiple insurance plans accepted.

Sleep Therapy

A lack of sleep is dangerous.  Sleep is mandatory to optimize brain function, physical health, mood regulation, safety, lowering chances of chronic conditions, and promoting healthy growth and development.  In order to improve your sleep, we will use the natural circadian rhythm and CBT-i.  Via psychoeducation, a sleep diary, sleep restriction, stimulus control, relaxation training , you will be guided through these stages until you establish new sleep patterns that can last a lifetime.  This is a short term therapy that will be challenging , so your committment to it is required. Multiple insurance plans accepted.

Support Groups

While individual therapy is often needed to treat certain mental and emotional disorders, sometimes our need to fellowship with other people who have similar stressors can provide the support we need to move on.  These groups often consist of people from similar cultural backgrounds, to ensure clients feel safe being vulnerable.  Cash payment only accepted, where applicable.

Corporate and Community Education

As a cultural therapist, I am particularly concerned about how social justice affects the emotional, cognitive, and behavioral health of indivuduals, especially those in marginalized communities.  If you are a corporation or company that is interested in undersatnding the impact of racism, microaggressions, and prejudice on not only the professional life, but the overall health and success of your employees, please feel free to reach out to me, so we can discuss your needs and my offerings.  Similarly if you are a community service orrgaization that wants to educate it's members on how to emotionally regulate, process through, and heal from racial trauma, contact me for your needs.  Let's heal together.

About Me
IMG_9498.jpeg

Hello. I am Karyn Morton, and I am a mother, friend, daughter, sneaker lover, hip hop afficionado, and a Black woman therapist.  As a therapist, I am solely interested in helping you achieve optimum mental and emotional wellness. I will help you explore a variety of ways (some tried and true, others new and  progressive)  to heal that will be challenging and goal-oriented, but also compassionate and empathetic.

My Practice

I am an online cultural therapist, who uses a variety of modalities, based on your needs and background,  to help you process through trauma, heal emotional scars, and find adaptive ways to deal with daily stressors.  I am open to all races, genders, sexual orientations and identities, with a focus on Black women and Black couples. I am specifically interested in helping dispel the myths about the power of emotions and sharing trauma in the Black community, expose how socialization and stereotypes have shaped our cognitions, and promoting social justice for the marginalized .   With you as the leader, and me as your guide, we will discover what maladaptive thoughts or behaviors have resulted from your emotional and mental journey... and course correct.  We will focus on the present, acceptance, and building a toolbox of skills to help you move through life's stressors.

My Credentials

I served almost 20 years as a federal immigration officer. I hold a Bachelor's and Masters degree in Psychology, and a Juris Doctorate to help effectuate this work.

My Motto:   Be Well Ya'll

Contact

My husband and I have been having some issues that lead to us seeking a therapist. We were very uneasy with the idea of outside help but we were blessed to be matched with Karyn. She listens and understands with an unbiased position. She’s attentive to facial expressions, body language and has challenged us in creative ways that have opened an easier flow of communication for the both of us. We leave sessions feeling more empowered and encouraged to continue working on our marriage together. She feels more like a wise family member in support of our success than just a therapist, We highly recommend her!!!
